A Gala Affair is a full-service event planning company that specializes in custom event design and decorating. Using extraordinary fabrics, florals and other design elements to create magical and fairytale-like backgrounds and scapes. We love creating events that capture your personality and style. We are the premier event designer for the Mystic Area.

An event should seduce the five senses-from the moment your guests arrive and enter the space to the last farewell.

Each client brings the pictures, the stories they want to share, their vision and dreams. We then add the unique detailed special touches and together we create stunning memories. Many of our decor and design elements are custom and only available to A Gala Affair clients

Each detail of your event will be attended to so you can relax and be guest at your own event enjoying your family and friends. If you merely need some experienced guidance in the weeks prior to the event, we will happily design a package for you.

We are members of ISES (International Special Event Society) and the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. Deborah Dempsey was a trained Marriott Executive Meeting Manager and Corporate Sales Manager of three Marriott Hotels located in the Hartford area before beginning her comapany 10 years ago.

Deb and her team really outdid themselves for our wedding. From the very beginning, going back and forth with her about the details, she was able to take our vision and absolutely blow it out of the water. Her creativity and ideas exceeded all of our expectations and made our wedding the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen. We are so fortunate that we have been able to get to know Deb and very lucky to have met such a warm, caring, and funny lady! Thank you so much Deb!

I couldn’t thank Deborah enough for the beautiful work she did on my wedding day. Her attention to detail was absolutely impeccable and better than I could have ever imagined. She was able to take my vision and turn it into a reality! She gives her customers her full attention and takes pride in doing a job well done. She was always available and made the process so easy. Even on short notice! I hired her a few weeks before my wedding day and she was able to give me the magical, glamourous and perfect day I had dreamt of since I was a young girl. My heart literally skipped a beat when I walked into the reception. The flowers, candelabras’, mercury vases and tea lights created an amazing ambiance. Of course I cried and she also shed a tear with me. She is very sweet and takes pride in every detail. As my guest were ushered from the cocktail room to the ballroom every single one of them stopped in their tracks and gasp at the beauty they were coming into. We received many compliments from them. Everyone kept saying “This is beautiful” and “It looks like something out of a movie”. I couldn’t have been happier. Deborah’s ideas and creativity are something that EVERYONE should experience at their event! I will continue to recommend her in the future.

A Wonderful Day :) Deb Dempsey is an amazing planner. She is not only talented with her designs but has amazing people skills. My wedding day was a rainy mess ( 10" of rain ) and Deb not only calmed me down..but turned the inside of the tent into a beautiful day. I would highly reccomend A Gala Affair for any event.... A Gala Affair goes the extra mile! My husband and I wanted to be involved in the process of the floral design and Deb was so gracious and accomodating. She came up with amazingly stunning floral designs that created a lavish and beautiful atmosphere for the ceremony and reception areas. She really went the extra mile for us - driving hours out of her way to find the most giant, beautiful dahlias and delivering our wonderfully presented corsages and bouquets to us the day of. She turned our scattered ideas of what we wanted into an elegant reality. She is also a lovely person and a joy to work with, and I'd recommend her to anybody!
Annual David Kidwell Memorial Golf Outing
F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S A Gala Affair was in charge our decorating for our 1st event and we are so lucky to have her services for this year's event also. Her ideas were so creative and the decor and flowers were so beautiful. Everyone who attended commented on what an amazing job was done with the tent and tables, and raved about how everything looked!!! I would recommend her services to anyone who wants to have a successful event.

Absolutely fantastic! Wonderful wonderful wonderful!! There are not enough encouraging adjectives in the English language for me to describe how utterly exceptional Deborah (A Gala Affair owner) and my experience with her was. I met Deborah roughly a year before our wedding. In that year all of my interactions with her were encouraging and stress free (and believe me stress free is not the kind of quality you find often in a vendor). She really took the time to get to know me/us and bent over backwards to give our decorations the kind of personal touch we were looking for. She is imaginative, original, artistic, and open minded. If you are looking for a wedding experience unlike any of the hundred other cookie-cutter weddings you’ve been to look no further. We were married at Rocky Neck State Park on June 30th 2007. We had our ceremony outside and our reception inside and for any one who has been inside the pavilion you can only imagine what a chore it is to decorate. Not only did Deborah make the outside look amazing but the inside was just breath taking. Every single person at our wedding commented on how beautiful and unique every detail was. She also did our flowers… and they were just stunning. Everything about our wedding day was perfect and we owe a great deal of that to Deborah. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.
